Hannah Serfass was an inspirational, junior equestrian rider. Her smile could light a room and her love of horses filled the atmosphere. Hannah believed every horse was different and special. It was the rider’s job to bond with each horse, searching for how the horse wanted to be touched, moved and led through a course. Hannah believed finding this connection was critical for a loving bond that leads to success throughout a ride.
“Horses want to please you. You just have to find the best way to communicate with them,” she would say. While Hannah’s time with us was cut short, she would want each of us to continue to ride, connect with and love horses as she did. Hannah is riding glorious horses in heaven now. With Hannah’s unique connection to her horses, her exceptional, natural ability and her total commitment and dedication to always improving, this foundation was created to exemplify Hannah’s love of horses.

Lucy Schotthoefer, awarded a $4,000 scholarship to compete in the 2026 Winter Spectacular Show Series at WEC – Ocala.
Junior riders, 18 and under, are encouraged to apply for HMS scholarships to use at national shows, the World Equestrian Center and any A-rated shows. Scholarships may be used towards show fees (for example: class fees, stalls, hay, shavings, feed and travel expenses). We award scholarships throughout the year, so be specific about the amount you need, what it covers, the classes you will enter and the name of the show you will attend.
